July = Crazy

Soooo it's been over a month since our last post. BUT that has been for good reason! Since I last updated you all, I've traveled to Texas, DC, and Pennsylvania, and am currently working through a 4-day certification class on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (personality assessment tool we use in career counseling).

Texas (San Antonio, specifically) was for the annual National Career Development Association Conference -- my first time attending the event and a great learning and networking experience.  I ate some good food, engaged with nice and inspiring people, and had a very positive experience.  The only real challenge was when my colleague and I literally had to RUN to catch our connecting flight from Dallas to Raleigh on the way home -- phew!! At least when I got back to NC, Dillon and Christina were waiting for me, and Nate and I got to entertain them for the 4th of July weekend.

Days later, I flew to Washington, DC with two colleagues as part of an employer and alumni development trip.  We visited with 6 individuals from various industries and offices, and attended a fun networking event for Duke students and alums from the Public Policy department. The best part of the adventure was getting to see David and Julianne, have dinner at their new house, and learn that they're expecting their first child (yay!!). Unfortunately I got sick between the TX and DC trips and was quite sniffly for over a week. No fun to have a summer cold, but glad I was able to come home and conquer the illness before our family vacation to PA.

This year, Danny, Sherry, Nathan, and I spent our annual week-long summer vacation in Hershey, PA.  Last year we went to Savannah/Tybee Island, Georgia, and we were hoping to find cooler weather by driving a few hours north.  While it was still plenty hot up in Pennsylvania, we enjoyed spending our days experiencing Hershey attractions, checking out Philly, and eating and shopping our way through Lancaster (aka: Amish Country).  I spent most of our vacation enjoying tasty treats (my fave = a double dark chocolate cookie from Hershey's World of Chocolate), reading, and just enjoying time with the fam.  It was nice just getting away and not having to do anything work-related for a whole week :).

So now Nate and I are back in Cary, both busy with work stuff, and even though we're done traveling for a while, we still have plenty going on. The month of July has been insane and I can't believe it's almost August, aka: the month of students returning to campus in full force.  Luckily, it's also the month that Corey and Pat move to NC, I get to help coordinate my boss's daughter's wedding, and I get my hair cut and colored for the first time since January (woo!).  See you in August :)

Outside Fireside Tavern in Lancaster, where we enjoyed the best tomato soup ever!!

Does this photo really need a caption? YUM!!
